CVE-2021-38266
HighCVSS 7.5Exploitation Probability (EPSS)
Elevated risk74th percentile - higher than 74% of all known CVEs
Summary
The Portal Security module in Liferay Portal 7.2.1 and earlier, and Liferay DXP 7.0 before fix pack 90, 7.1 before fix pack 17 and 7.2 before fix pack 5 incorrectly imports users from LDAP. This allows a remote attacker to prevent a legitimate user from authenticating by attempting to sign in as a user that exists in LDAP.
Risk Assessment
An attacker can effectively deny access to the system for legitimate users, leading to service disruption and potential loss of productivity.
Recommendation
Immediately update Liferay Portal to version 7.2.1 with the appropriate fix pack or later, and for Liferay DXP apply fix pack 90 for version 7.0, fix pack 17 for 7.1, or fix pack 5 for 7.2.
