Summary

The Linux kernel before 5.13.4 has incorrect connection-setup ordering in fs/nfs/nfs4client.c. Operators of remote NFSv4 servers can cause a denial of service (hanging of mounts) by making those servers unreachable during trunking detection.

Risk Assessment

An attacker controlling a remote NFSv4 server can cause NFS mounts to hang, blocking data access and disrupting systems that depend on NFS.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to version 5.13.4 or later. Restrict access to trusted NFSv4 servers.
