CVE-2021-1476
MediumCVSS 6.7Exploitation Probability (EPSS)
Low risk39th percentile - higher than 39% of all known CVEs
Summary
A vulnerability in the CLI of Cisco ASA and FTD could allow an authenticated, local attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the underlying OS with root privileges. This is due to insufficient input validation of user-supplied commands.
Risk Assessment
An attacker with administrator credentials could gain full control over the device's OS, potentially leading to complete compromise.
Recommendation
Restrict CLI access to trusted administrators and apply Cisco updates that address this vulnerability.
Other vulnerabilities in Cisco ASA
See all- CVE-2024-20384Medium
A vulnerability in the Network Service Group (NSG) feature of Cisco ASA and FTD could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to bypass a configured ACL and allow traffic that should be denied. This is due to a logic error when NSG ACLs are populated.
- CVE-2024-20341Medium
A vulnerability in the VPN web client services of Cisco ASA and FTD could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to conduct a cross-site scripting (XSS) attack against a browser accessing an affected device. This is due to improper validation of user-supplied input.
- CVE-2024-20297Medium
A vulnerability in the AnyConnect firewall for Cisco ASA and FTD could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to bypass a configured ACL and allow traffic that should have been denied. This is due to a logic error in populating group ACLs when an AnyConnect client establishes a new session.
- CVE-2023-20275Medium
A vulnerability in the AnyConnect SSL VPN feature of Cisco ASA and FTD could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to send packets with another VPN user's source IP address. This is due to improper validation of the packet's inner source IP after decryption.
Original NVD description (English source)
A vulnerability in the CLI of Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software and Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) Software could allow an authenticated, local attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the underlying operating system (OS) of an affected device. The vulnerability is due to insufficient input validation of commands that are supplied by the user. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by authenticating to a device and submitting crafted input for specific commands. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute commands on the underlying OS with root privileges. To exploit this vulnerability, an attacker must have valid administrator-level credentials.
