CVE-2019-1701
MediumCVSS 4.8Exploitation Probability (EPSS)
Elevated risk56th percentile - higher than 56% of all known CVEs
Summary
Multiple vulnerabilities in the WebVPN service of Cisco ASA and FTD Software could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to conduct a cross-site scripting (XSS) attack against a user of the WebVPN portal. This is due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input. An attacker could persuade a user to click a crafted link, allowing arbitrary script execution in the interface context or access to sensitive browser information. Administrator privileges are required.
Risk Assessment
The risk is the potential for malicious script execution in the WebVPN portal context, potentially leading to data theft or session hijacking.
Recommendation
It is recommended to update the software to a patched version and educate users about clicking suspicious links.
Original NVD description (English source)
Multiple vulnerabilities in the WebVPN service of Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software and Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) Software could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to conduct a cross-site scripting (XSS) attack against a user of the WebVPN portal of an affected device. The vulnerabilities exist because the software insufficiently validates user-supplied input on an affected device. An attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by persuading a user of the interface to click a crafted link. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary script code in the context of the affected interface or access sensitive browser-based information. An attacker would need administrator privileges on the device to exploit these vulnerabilities.
