Published: Updated: Translated: NVD NIST

Exploitation Probability (EPSS)

Very high risk
19.78%

97th percentile - higher than 97% of all known CVEs

Summary

FasterXML jackson-databind before 2.7.9.3, 2.8.x before 2.8.11.1, and 2.9.x before 2.9.5 allows unauthenticated remote code execution due to an incomplete fix for the CVE-2017-7525 deserialization flaw. This is exploitable by sending maliciously crafted JSON input to the readValue method of ObjectMapper, bypassing a blacklist that is ineffective if the c3p0 libraries are available in the classpath.

Risk Assessment

An attacker can remotely execute arbitrary code on the server without authentication, potentially leading to full system compromise. The risk is high in applications that deserialize untrusted JSON data using a vulnerable version of jackson-databind.

Recommendation

Update jackson-databind to version 2.7.9.3, 2.8.11.1, 2.9.5, or later. Additionally, consider removing c3p0 libraries from the classpath if not required, and enable safe deserialization mechanisms.
