CVE-2016-9256

High
Published: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

In F5 BIG-IP versions 12.1.0 through 12.1.2, a race condition can occur that may delay the enforcement of permissions by iControl. If the role_map is not reloaded after permissions are changed, a user may gain access to resources they should not have access to.

Risk Assessment

The organization may be exposed to unauthorized access to resources, potentially leading to data leaks or security breaches. This risk occurs rarely but can have serious consequences.

Recommendation

It is recommended to regularly reload the role map after any permission changes to minimize the risk of this race condition.

Original NVD description (English source)

In F5 BIG-IP 12.1.0 through 12.1.2, permissions enforced by iControl can lag behind the actual permissions assigned to a user if the role_map is not reloaded between the time the permissions are changed and the time of the user's next request. This is a race condition that occurs rarely in normal usage; the typical period in which this is possible is limited to at most a few seconds after the permission change.
