CVE-2015-1803

High
Published: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

The bdfReadCharacters function in X.Org libXfont before version 1.4.9 and 1.5.x before 1.5.1 does not properly handle character bitmaps it cannot read. This allows remote authenticated users to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted BDF font file.

Risk Assessment

Organizations may be exposed to attacks that lead to service outages and potential execution of malicious code, which could result in data loss or system takeover.

Recommendation

It is recommended to update the X.Org libXfont library to version 1.4.9 or 1.5.1 and later to mitigate this vulnerability.
