Summary

In Apache Tomcat before 6.0.40, 7.x before 7.0.53, and 8.x before 8.0.4, the default servlet does not properly restrict XSLT stylesheets, allowing remote attackers to bypass security-manager restrictions and read arbitrary files via XXE.

Risk Assessment

A remote attacker can bypass security restrictions and read sensitive files from the server, potentially leading to data leakage.

Recommendation

Update Apache Tomcat to version 6.0.40, 7.0.53, or 8.0.4 (or later) depending on the branch in use.
