CVE Catalog

CVE-2006-3796

High
Published: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

DeluxeBB 1.07 and earlier does not properly handle a username composed of a single space character. This allows remote authenticated users to login as the "space" user, post as the guest user, and block an administrator's ability to ban the "space" user.

Risk Assessment

An authenticated user can impersonate the "space" account and post content as a guest, while administrators are unable to ban that account, leading to bypass of access control and moderation mechanisms.

Recommendation

Upgrade DeluxeBB to a version later than 1.07 if available. If upgrading is not possible, consider validating usernames to reject names consisting solely of whitespace characters.
