High
Published: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

PHP remote file inclusion vulnerability in DoubleSpeak 0.1, when register_globals is enabled, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary PHP code via the config[private] parameter in multiple files, as demonstrated by index.php, faq.php, and hardware.php. The issue has been disputed by multiple third-party researchers who state that config[private] is initialized in an include file before being used.

Risk Assessment

If the vulnerability is real, a remote attacker could execute arbitrary PHP code on the server, leading to full system compromise. The risk only exists when register_globals is enabled, which is disabled by default in newer PHP versions.

Recommendation

Disable register_globals in the PHP configuration and update DoubleSpeak to a newer version if available. Due to the disputed nature of the vulnerability, verify it in a test environment before taking action.
