CVE-2006-0645

High
Published: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

The Tiny ASN.1 Library (libtasn1) before version 0.2.18, used by GnuTLS 1.2.x before 1.2.10 and 1.3.x before 1.3.4, and GNU Shishi, contains a vulnerability that crashes the DER decoder and potentially allows arbitrary code execution via out-of-bounds access caused by invalid input.

Risk Assessment

An attacker can remotely crash services using these libraries (e.g., TLS servers) or potentially gain control over them, leading to confidentiality and availability breaches.

Recommendation

Immediately update libtasn1 to version 0.2.18 or later, and GnuTLS to version 1.2.10/1.3.4 or later; also check if GNU Shishi requires an update.

Original NVD description (English source)

Tiny ASN.1 Library (libtasn1) before 0.2.18, as used by (1) GnuTLS 1.2.x before 1.2.10 and 1.3.x before 1.3.4, and (2) GNU Shishi, allows attackers to crash the DER decoder and possibly execute arbitrary code via "out-of-bounds access" caused by invalid input, as demonstrated by the ProtoVer SSL test suite.
