CVE-2005-3690

High
Published: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

A stack-based buffer overflow in the IMAP service (meimaps.exe) of MailEnable Professional 1.6 and earlier and Enterprise 1.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long mailbox name in the select, create, delete, rename, subscribe, or unsubscribe commands.

Risk Assessment

The risk for the organization is the possibility of remote code execution by an unauthenticated attacker, potentially leading to compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data.

Recommendation

It is recommended to immediately upgrade MailEnable to a version later than 1.6 (Professional) or 1.1 (Enterprise) where this vulnerability is fixed. If an upgrade is not possible, restrict access to the IMAP service to trusted IP addresses only.
