CVE-2005-3192

High
Published: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

A heap-based buffer overflow in the StreamPredictor function of Xpdf 3.01, used in multiple products including Poppler, teTeX, KDE kpdf, pdftohtml, KOffice KWord, CUPS, and libextractor, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted PDF file with an out-of-range numComps field.

Risk Assessment

An attacker can send a specially crafted PDF file with an invalid numComps field, causing a buffer overflow and potentially gaining control of the system.

Recommendation

Immediately update all affected components (Xpdf, Poppler, teTeX, KDE kpdf, pdftohtml, KOffice KWord, CUPS, libextractor) to versions containing security fixes.
