High
Published: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

A stack-based buffer overflow in the ntlm_output function in http-ntlm.c for wget 1.10, curl 7.13.2, and libcurl 7.13.2, and other products using libcurl, when NTLM authentication is enabled, allows remote servers to execute arbitrary code via a long NTLM username.

Risk Assessment

A remote attacker server can take control of the victim's system by executing arbitrary code, potentially leading to data theft, malware installation, or full system compromise.

Recommendation

Immediately update wget, curl, and libcurl to versions after 7.13.2 that include fixes for this vulnerability. If an update is not possible, disable NTLM authentication in the configuration of these tools.
