CVE-2004-0989

High
Published: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

Multiple buffer overflows in libXML versions 2.6.12 and 2.6.13 (libxml2), and possibly other versions, may allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long FTP URL, a long proxy URL containing FTP data, and other overflows related to manipulation of DNS length values.

Risk Assessment

The risk for the organization is the possibility of remote code execution without authentication, which could lead to system compromise, data theft, or service disruption.

Recommendation

It is recommended to immediately upgrade libxml2 to a version newer than 2.6.13 where these vulnerabilities are fixed. Also review the configuration of applications using libxml2 for exposure to attacks via FTP and HTTP.
