High
Published: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

Buffer overflow vulnerability in the QFILEPATHINFO request handler in Samba 3.0.x through 3.0.7. A remote attacker can exploit this flaw to execute arbitrary code by sending a specially crafted TRANSACT2_QFILEPATHINFO request with a small 'maximum data bytes' value.

Risk Assessment

The risk for the organization includes the possibility of remote takeover of the Samba server, which may lead to compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data and the entire IT infrastructure.

Recommendation

It is recommended to immediately upgrade Samba to version 3.0.8 or later, which includes a fix for this vulnerability. If an upgrade is not possible, restrict access to the Samba server to trusted networks only.
