Weekly CVE digest
One email a week with newly published vulnerabilities worth knowing about. No account needed.
This digest covers new vulnerabilities in general, not your servers. If you want to know which of them actually run in your infrastructure, that is what Secvalis does: it scans your machines and reports only what concerns them.
The WritePICONImage function in coders/xpm.c in ImageMagick 7.0.6-4 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory leak) via a crafted file that is mishandled in an OpenPixelCache call.
@tiptap/core's public mergeAttributes() helper uses ordinary bracket assignment on keys returned by Object.entries(). An own __proto__ key from JSON therefore invokes the legacy prototype setter on the fresh merged object, and the function returns an object whose prototype is attacker-controlled.
A NULL pointer dereference in the src/path.c component of GNU Unrtf v0.21.10 allows attackers to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) via injecting a crafted payload into the search_path parameter.
The getlong function in numutils.c in libdoc through 2017-10-23 has a heap-based buffer over-read that allows attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via a crafted file.
The IsPixelMonochrome function in MagickCore/pixel-accessor.h in ImageMagick 7.0.3.0 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read and crash) via a crafted file. The vendor states this is a Q64 issue and Q64 is not supported.
Decode, DecodeChain, DecodeTrustStore, and ToPEM can incorrectly accept PKCS#12 files which were encoded with the wrong password, due to a failure to reject excessively-short PBMAC1 keys. Users who decode PKCS#12 files from untrusted sources and rely on the password for authentication can be affected.
net-ssh's host-certificate verifier (`Net::SSH::HostKeyEntries::CertAuthority#matches_key?`) checks exactly two things when a server presents an OpenSSH certificate (`*[email protected]`) under a `@cert-authority` trusted-CA entry: (1) the cert is self-consistently signed (signature_valid).
net-ssh's transport packet reader trusts the 4-byte wire packet length without capping it against RFC 4253 §6.1 (35000 bytes). Pre-KEX (plaintext), a malicious server can declare an arbitrarily large packet length and stream data, causing unbounded client memory growth before authentication.
Net::SSH::Transport::ServerVersion#read! appends each received byte to @version until a newline, then copies to @header, with no maximum line length or total byte cap enforced. A malicious server sending a long identification line without LF causes unbounded memory growth.
When a crafted ed25519 private key containing an insane number of rounds is loaded, net-ssh enters an infinite CPU-time consuming loop for a very long time trying to load the key. The fact that the key is not a real SSH key does not matter in this regard.
Nodemailer's address parser has three published, patched fixes for RFC 5322 comment handling inside an addr-spec. The description covers earlier issues with glued domain atoms and quoted local parts, plus related ReDoS fixes.
Nodemailer's SMTP client applies four regular expressions to a peer's EHLO response to detect supported SASL mechanisms. Each pattern uses overlapping whitespace-matching sub-patterns, producing quadratic (O(n^2)) backtracking on long mechanism names.
Shell command injection is possible in Net::SSH::Proxy::Command and Net::SSH::Proxy::Jump. When an application configures a proxy and passes attacker-influenced host, port, or remote_user values to Net::SSH.start (or a jump string to Proxy::Jump.new), shell metacharacters in those values may be interpreted.
In net-ssh, `Service::Forward#initialize` registers server-initiated auth-agent channel handlers unconditionally, so ordinary port forwarding exposes the local SSH agent.
Net::SSH::Transport::Session#poll_message pushes every packet received during key exchange that is not on the "allowed during KEX" list into an unbounded @queue (Array) with no size cap. A malicious server that completes KEXINIT (putting net-ssh into pending KEX) and then floods non-allowed packets can cause unbounded memory growth.
Nodemailer's SMTP client response parser reassembles multiline server replies by appending each continuation line onto a single response-queue entry and re-testing whether it is still a partial reply on every line. The partial-response test performs string operations per line, which can lead to inefficient processing.
