Weekly CVE digest

One email a week with newly published vulnerabilities worth knowing about. No account needed.

This digest covers new vulnerabilities in general, not your servers. If you want to know which of them actually run in your infrastructure, that is what Secvalis does: it scans your machines and reports only what concerns them.

I agree to receive the weekly CVE digest at the address above. I can withdraw this consent at any time using the link in the footer of every message.

CVE-2026-89641
High

In the Linux kernel, cifs_file_set_size() has a use-after-free. When the else branch finds a writable file handle via find_writable_file(), it borrows tcon and server from the handle, attempts the handle-based set_file_size() RPC, then releases the handle with cifsFileInfo_put(). If set_file_size() fails, execution falls through to the path-based fallback, which reuses the borrowed tcon and server even though cifsFileInfo_put() may have freed tcon. The fix sets tcon = NULL after cifsFileInfo_put() to force the safe cifs_sb_tlink() path.

CVE-2026-89640
High

In the Linux kernel CIFS client, cifs_remap_file_range() with len == 0 (clone to EOF) computes the effective length as i_size - off. If off exceeds the file size, the result is a negative loff_t, corrupting the ByteCount in the FSCTL_DUPLICATE_EXTENTS_TO_FILE request and inverting the range in filemap_write_and_wait_range(). The existing off >= i_size check only fires after the ioctl has already been sent.

CVE-2026-89639
High

In the Linux kernel CIFS client, cifs_do_truncate() invoked from cifs_open() with O_TRUNC cannot use cifs_resize_file_locked() because i_rwsem is not held, so it fails to properly resize the fscache cookie. The fix adds a cifs_invalidate_cache() call after cifs_setsize(), which invalidates the cache without requiring i_rwsem.

CVE-2026-89638
High

In the Linux kernel SMB client (cifs.ko), writing to a file with the setuid/setgid bit set did not clear that bit on the server when mounted with cifsacl, modefromsid, or POSIX/Unix extensions. The VFS requested clearing the bit, but the cifs driver unconditionally skipped the mode change (ATTR_MODE), so the cleared mode was never sent to the server.

CVE-2026-89637
Critical

In the Linux kernel SMB client, cifs_check_trans2() returning false for a malformed secondary T2 response (invalid SMB header or PDU rejected by check2ndT2()) causes handle_mid() to overwrite mid->resp_buf with the new buffer, leaking the primary buffer and leaving server->smallbuf/bigbuf dangling. This results in a use-after-free when the demux thread reuses the freed buffer.

CVE-2026-89636
CriticalEPSS 51%

In the Linux kernel SMB client, free_tgts() frees all structures in ce->tlist but leaves ce->tgthint pointing to one of the freed cache_dfs_tgt structures. If the pointer is not reset before later use, a use-after-free occurs.

CVE-2026-89635
Critical

In the Linux kernel, the ksmbd_reopen_durable_fd() function rebinds every detached oplock on an inode to the reconnecting session instead of only the oplock owned by the reopened file. This allows one session to adopt another session's oplock, and when the adopting session is destroyed, a use-after-free occurs. The vulnerability is reachable with the default durable-handle and oplock configuration when two sessions open the same file with distinct AppInstanceIds.

CVE-2026-89634
CriticalEPSS 52%

In the Linux kernel SMB client, the ALIGN() macro in symlink_data() can overflow for ErrorDataLength values near UINT32_MAX (e.g. 0xFFFFFFF9), wrapping to 0. This causes the bounds check to pass and the loop to advance by zero bytes, leaving pointer 'p' pointing into stale data.

CVE-2026-89633
Critical

In the Linux kernel SMB client, coalesce_t2() computes data pointers directly from server-supplied DataOffset fields without validating them against buffer bounds. A small DataOffset can push a pointer below the data area and overwrite header fields, while a large one can push it past the buffer end, causing out-of-bounds heap reads or writes.

CVE-2026-89632
High

In the Linux kernel SMB client, reparse_buf_ptr() reads the ReparseDataLength field before verifying that the received data covers the full fixed header. If a server returns OutputCount < 6, the read at offset 4-5 reaches past the end of the received data.

CVE-2026-89631
Critical

In the Linux kernel SMB client, CIFSTCon() bounds its strnlen() by the server's ByteCount minus two, which for ByteCount 0 or 1 becomes negative as an int and converts to a huge size_t. The later subtraction wraps __u16 bytes_left, allowing cifs_strndup_from_utf16() to read up to 65535 bytes from a ~16 KB object, leaking data through /proc/fs/cifs/DebugData.

CVE-2026-89630
Critical

In the Linux kernel SMB client, the is_valid_oplock_break() function no longer effectively validates the DataOffset field. Due to an earlier change in RFC1002 header handling, the expression used for validation always evaluates to zero, so the check never rejects invalid values.

CVE-2026-89629
Low risk· EPSS 10%

The corsair-void HID driver did not check the size of incoming status and firmware events. Malformed events could cause an out-of-bounds read.

CVE-2026-89628
Low risk· EPSS 12%

In the picolcd HID driver, picolcd_debug_eeprom_read() trusted a device-supplied length byte without checking how much data was actually received. A device returning a length of 0xff could cause an out-of-bounds read and expose adjacent memory through the debugfs file.

CVE-2026-89627
Low risk· EPSS 11%

In the roccat HID driver, roccat_report_event() duplicates reports into a circular buffer, but device destruction paths did not free these copies. This caused a memory leak on each device removal.

CVE-2026-89626
High

In the HID sensor custom driver, hid_sensor_custom_add_attributes() did not remove previously created sysfs groups when a subsequent sysfs_create_group() call failed. This left invalid structures and potential access to freed memory.

CVE-2026-89625
Low risk· EPSS 11%

A use-after-free vulnerability exists in the Linux kernel's HID: sony driver for GHL (Guitar Hero Live) dongles. During driver unbind, sony_remove() uses timer_delete_sync() which does not prevent timer re-arming, and usb_free_urb() does not cancel an in-flight URB. As a result, the ghl_poke_timer can be re-armed on freed memory and fire after the sc structure is freed.

CVE-2026-89624
High

In the Linux kernel, universal_pidff_probe() starts the device with hid_hw_start() but, if force-feedback initialization fails, returns the error without stopping the device. This leaves the registered hidraw device alive after the driver is cleared, leading to a use-after-free write when /dev/hidrawX is opened.

CVE-2026-89623
Low risk· EPSS 11%

In the mcp2221 HID driver, the cleanup callback mcp2221_hid_unregister() did not stop device I/O before hardware teardown began. Incoming HID reports could race with device destruction, leading to a use-after-free.

CVE-2026-89622
High

In the mcp2221 HID driver, mcp_i2c_smbus_read() stored a buffer pointer in mcp->rxbuf but never cleared it after the transfer completed. A delayed or spurious MCP2221_I2C_GET_DATA report could write data into freed memory.
