Better Messages vulnerabilities

The Better Messages plugin for WordPress (versions up to and including 2.15.33) is vulnerable to authorization bypass due to improper verification of user authorization. An authenticated attacker with custom-level access can access the full message transcript, thread metadata, and user data of any chat-room thread without authorization. This is only exploitable when the chat room's only_joined_can_read setting retains its default value of '0'.

The Better Messages plugin for WordPress (versions up to and including 2.15.33) is vulnerable to Information Exposure by Spoofing. The is_ai_bot_user() function identifies privileged internal AI bot accounts by checking for the 'ai-chat-bot-' prefix against a guest record's stored IP address, which is populated verbatim from the client-controlled X-Real-IP request header. This allows unauthenticated attackers to register a guest identity treated as an internal AI bot, bypassing role allowlists and join filters to join administrator-restricted chat rooms, post messages, and read other users' private message history.

The Better Messages – Chat Rooms, Group Chat, Private Messages & AI Chat Bots plugin for WordPress (all versions up to and including 2.15.22) is vulnerable to Reflected Cross-Site Scripting via the 'icn' parameter due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. An unauthenticated attacker can inject arbitrary web scripts into pages that execute if they can successfully trick a user into performing an action such as clicking a link.

The Better Messages plugin for WordPress up to version 2.15.19 has an arbitrary file deletion vulnerability in the delete_sticker function. An authenticated attacker with administrator privileges can delete any file on the server, potentially leading to remote code execution.
